In a late-May letter to their support team, longtime Philippines missionaries Larry and Mary Caldwell reported Larry’s acceptance of a new position with Converge International Ministries. Larry will become director of Missionary Training and Strategy Development, training missionaries from candidate status to retirement, assisting missions regions in strategy development within their people groups, teaching missions courses at strategic seminaries and researching and writing on missions topics.
On June 10 the Caldwells departed from Manila, where they served for more than 20 years. They will relocate to a house they’ve purchased in Sioux Falls, S.D., and will visit most of their supporting churches. Larry will remain on missionary support status; Mary will no longer be officially employed by Converge.
Wrote Larry: “The goal of most missionaries is to work yourself out of a job.... Many of my for- mer students have now taken the lead in missionary training institutions and other leadership roles throughout Southeast Asia. Though I could stay on indefinitely, my original task is accomplished, and it is time to let my former students flourish in their roles.”
