What is 1by1/Haiti?
1by1/Haiti is the Converge Worldwide child sponsorship project
designed to transform the lives of children and the community in which they
live. This project, launched in 2003, aims to give a “helping hand” to educate children in
Maissade, a town of 9000 people on the central plateau of Haiti. This project
helps poor children attend
Melchisedek
Baptist
School,
begun in 1987 by pastor Luniqui YoYo of the First Baptist Church of Maissade. Pastor YoYo’s vision for this school is to
inspire confidence, assure a prosperous future and lead children to Jesus
Christ. 1by1/Haiti sponsorship enables
families to cover the cost of tuition, supplies, lunch and a uniform, so that
the children of Maissade receive the basic education they need for a
brighter future.

Haiti is the poorest country in the
Western Hemisphere, aggravated by overpopulation (7.5 million), drought and
famine. However, it also has one of the youngest populations in the world: 70% under
the age of 30. The functional literacy rate is only 20%, thus one of the
greatest needs is helping children with educational development.

 A partnership with Converge Worldwide
Haitian churches
Converge Worldwide International Ministries has entered into a ministry
partnership with Haitian churches in the
U.S.
and the First Baptist Church of Maissade in
Haiti to form the Haitian
Initiative.
The goal of this Initiative
is to transform the town of
Maissade
through education, improved health care and farming, leadership training and the
light of the gospel of Jesus Christ. One
aspect of the Haitian Initiative is the 1by1/Haiti Child Sponsorship program. This program is your opportunity to help educate
